Music Recital, April 12, 2014
21 pupils taking special sessions in violin, piano, guitar and voice got the opportunity to showcase their talents in a recital at the HSG Grounds. Their mentors organized a session for the young musicians to gain the experience of formally presenting the product of their hardwork the past school year. HSG's special music classes serves as a highly specialized training arm geared to help a child develop his/her potential in a particular instrument or medium. These sessions run the whole year and have a highly flexible schedule.
Heart and Soul: The True Essence of Giftedness, Graduation and Moving Up 2014
“Heart and Soul”, Headway School for Giftedness’ theme for its Graduation, Moving up and Recognition Ceremony talked about the true essence of giftedness, which lies on the inner self. By cultivating one’s dreams, aspirations and enriching self awareness, he aims to reach a life beyond just intelligence, but to a life of wisdom to be able cope with challenges and move towards our fulfilment and actualization. The graduates spent a special afternoon walking down memory lane as images of their year flashed on the big screen, telling a story of love, friendship and camaraderie. Joining them for wonderful performances are HSG alumni and singer/performer Lyka Maninang, and Music Opportunity Teacher/Theater actress Justine Pena.
HSG Leadership Camp, February 25-26, 2014
Community ties were further strengthened as HSG conducted its yearly Leadership Camp last February 25-26, 2014 at the HSG grounds. This served as an opportunity for the students to maximize their physical, mental and social skills to successfully complete a day full of team games, competitions and meal sharing with their fellow cluster mates. It was followed by a morning exercise session, in Zumba style, facilitated by the students themselves!
First Holy Communion, February 8, 2014

18 HSG Catechists received their first Holy Communion last February 8, 2014 at the Los Desposorios Chapel at Panay Avenue, Quezon City. It was facilitated by the Carmelite Sisters led by Sister Mechelle Karcasona. The school offers a Catechism Program as an after school activity for Roman Catholic students, as part of its holistic programming that touches on spiritual and character formation.
Meeting with Dr.Maureen Niehart of the National Institute of Education, November 1, 2013

HSG’s Management team recently met with Dr. Maureen Niehart of the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore to forge possibilities of sharing the latest information about helping gifted (and special needs) children to the Philippines. HSG Founder/ Directress Maria Luz B. Estudillo and Principal Amos V. Manlangit were present to get Dr. Niehart’s suggestions on how to build on the advocacy of helping gifted children in our country. Collaborations will materialize through HSG’s upcoming offerings that will be announced soon.
Giftedness Month (Relief Effort for typhoon victims), November 2013
In light of the devastating impact of Typhoon Yolanda to millions of Filipinos particularly in the Visayas, HSG pupils transformed its yearly Giftedness Month celebration into an active campaign of collecting goods that would be brought to the affected areas. HSG adopted towns in Western Samar who became the recipients of the resources. It was picked up and brought by the Philippine Air Force. The HSG pupils also wrote little prayers addressed to the victims, encouraging them to gain hope amidst the tragedy. The school’s mini trees were adorned with these messages, promoting a meaningful upcoming holiday season among the school community.
UN Week/Trick or Treat! Costume Party, October 24-25, 2013
To celebrate the establishing of the United Nations Day on
October 24, the HSG community came up with indoor activities that allowed the
children to learn about other countries. The children came up with classroom
decorations, dioramas and exhibits to learn more about the world. As the week
ended, the Trick or Treat Costume party last October 25 served as a happy
sem-ender activity. Pupils and their mentors came in different outfits
comprising of princesses, fairies, superheroes, horror movie characters and
other delightful creatures!
Math and Science Dedication Week, September 25-26, 2013

A full week was dedicated by the HSG community to exciting
Math and Science activities. This is in line with the school’s effort to
promote Math and Science excellence in unique and creative ways. Pupils
presented exhibits showing dioramas of animal habitats, while others made information
boards about Science trivia. One class even made illustrations of their own
inventions! What resulted was a simple, yet informative campaign of how Science
and Math can be made more fun by integrating creativity!
Cluster Sessions and Parenting Seminars at HSG, September-October 2013

A series of lectures about children’s social skills development was conducted by HSG last September to October to help parents/guardians build awareness on their children’s development stages. Developmental psychologist Mary Daradar facilitated the seminars. This is in line with the school’s effort to collaborate with parents for a stronger home-school partnership. Sigabo sa HSG! Buwan ng Wika Culmination, August 30, 2013

The school celebrated the Buwan ng Wika with “Sigabo sa HSG”, a special event that features the culture, festivals, language and places of interest of different provinces in the Philippines. Each class/section was assigned a province with the task of gathering information about it. A special exhibit was then installed by the students, their mentor and parents - becoming an opportunity to showcase their own wonders. Grade 1A’s Kadayawan booth and costumes were judged the best booth.
The Friday out-of-the-box event happened last August 30, with special dance presentations inspired by different festivals. Dances from Aklan’s Ati-atihan Festival, Kadayawan of Davao, Cebu’s Sinulog, among others, were some of those portrayed by the year levels. Grade 3A won the best dance presentation for their rendition of the Leyte’s Pintados Festival.
Caregivers' Seminar, August 17, 2013
HSG’s Caregiver Seminar last August 17 focused on how to make oneself well and able to be of service to the child. K2 mentor Via Hombrebueno served as the resource speaker for the said topic. She shared some insights on how a positive attitude can enable a caregiver become caring and loyal in his/her profession. HSG’s Occupational Therapist, Miss Peaches, gave practical tips and strategies on how to handle behavioural situations. She explained some ways on how OT’s give praise, reward and support to a child to be able to acquire positive behaviors. The Seminar was attended by over 30 active participants!
Nutrition Month Culmination, July 26, 2013
Each class was then assigned a food group (such as dairy, breads, fruits, vegetables, etc.) for them to research and present during the culminating activity. HSG families converged in the UP Village covered courts on July 26 with healthy food to share.
General Parents' Orientation and Parenting Seminar, June 22, 2013
HSG had its 12th Parents’ Orientation last June 22, 2013 at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, Visayas Avenue. The HSG team gained the opportunity to present the roster of Administrators, Faculty, Special Mentors and Staff to the school community. It was followed by a special parenting lecture on the topic “Building the Essential Skills and Attitudes towards Excellence”. The speaker, Ms. Mary Iphigine Daradar, touched on the values of perseverance and resilience as important traits parents can teach their children in order for them to strive and become excellent in their own ways. Orientation and Socialization Day, June 14, 2013
School Year 2013-2014 kicked off with an orientation on safety and security, in which the school conducted a fire and earthquake drill participated by the whole HSG community. The students learned about ways on how to keep themselves safe inside the school premise through musical, artistic and physical activities that allowed them to creatively express themselves.
