"The world needs new leadership, but the new leadership is about working together" - Jack Ma Leaders are cultivated and it's never too early to instill and nurture the leaders within our children. Last January 26, 2018, HSG students participated in a leadership camp where they put into practice and learn sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, creative thinking, communication, while building their self-esteem through various activities. The activities were divided per cluster, the Pre-school cluster in the morning, the Primary Cluster Afternoon and the Intermediate cluster in the evening. Each cluster were divided into four teams: The Blue Team with Teacher Loiz and Teacher Nica, The Red Team with Teacher EJ and Teacher Lei, The White Team with Teacher Kim and Teacher Ranzes. Lastly, the Yellow Team with Teacher Karina and Teacher Erika. The Pre-school Leadership Camp was facilitated by Teacher Tere and Teacher Marivi. The activities began at 7:30 in the morning. Our pre-school students participated in different activities, such as: Feather Up, Shark, Shoe Game and Large Group Mural. In each activity the students were asked to work as a team, look after each other, and learn to communicate. At three in the afternoon, it was the Primary Cluster's turn to have their leadership camp. The activities began with Chicken Fight, as ice-breaker designed to teach student to defend and protect each other like family. This was then followed by a Cheer and a Team Flag Making activity, here the students work together towards a common goal while incorporating their creative skills. These activities were capped with the discussion about teamwork and leadership. As a final activity for the Primary Cluster, the students took on 5 different stations for Puzzle Hassle, in each station students had to complete a task in order to get a piece to a puzzle they need to complete. Through this activity the students learned that working together, having someone to help and assist you can make all the difference. Night Camp began at 6pm for the Intermediate Cluster. Like the Primary Cluster, the intermediate students participated in the Chicken Fight activity and the Team Flag and Cheer Making. As the night deepened, underneath the starry skies, the students joined in an Astronomy Crossword activity and a Stargazing activity. Both activities allowed them to learn to communicate, work together and appreciate each other's capabilities. While one day of working together does not make a leader, the leadership camp hoped to have planted the seed of team work, cooperation and leadership. It is our responsibility, as a community, to nurture that seed that they may bloom into leaders of the future.
