The live vocal and dance performances by the HSG community was shared throughout
a 2-hour supershow last December 20, 2011 at the UP Film Center. Entitled “The HSG
Serenata”, it pays tribute to award winning musicals from the past to the
present.
Music from Mamma Mia!, the Sound of Music, Oliver!, Annie, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, The Lion King, among others, were inspirations in a delightful blend of memorable tunes alongside a story that tells of 4 gifts God gave to the world – The gifts of Hope, Joy, Happiness and Dream.

In a visual spectacle of moving storybook images, theatrical lights and paper stars that illuminated the stage, pupils from each year level and from the special classes performed in the Serenata. The Preschool class interpreted “Tomorrow” with costumes depicting a lush garden, while Grade 1 sang their hearts out to “Breaking Free”. |
_Grade 2 pupils, donned in bright red outfits, sang and
danced to “My Favorite Things” while Grade 3 performed a back to back – “Where is
Love?” And “You’ll be in my Heart”. The Grade 4 Class rendered the climactic “Circle
of Life”.
_Grade 5 students sang to “the Climb”, while Grade 6
engaged a dramatic opening of “When you Believe”.
_The HSG Children’s Choir sang “Say a Little Prayer” and “O
come O Ye Faithful”, while the Music Opportunity Class performed “Edelweiss” on
Recorder. The HSG Streetdancers and ABC Dance Troupe (Dance Opportunity class) closed
the show with “We’re All in this Together”. 4 short videos were created by the Drama
Opportunity class showing the 4 different gifts.
_But it was not just the students who performed to the
audience of over 500 families and friends. The Faculty had an array of solo
singing (Teacher Carmi and OT Teacher Chat) and group dance acts that made the
children stand up from their seats! HSG was also honoured to have popular
singer Cookie Chua, Pianist Glenn Lemen, Violinist Reneiza Santos, Theater
actor and performer Joshua Ramirez, alumni Lyka Maninang and Milbren Cavarlez
render wonderful performances.
__It was truly a magical collaboration of all members of the
HSG community. There’s nothing more fitting to thank but the parents, guardians
and families who supported their children, providing for the costumes and
rehearsal needs. Thus, the Serenata was an expression of gratitude to thank
everyone, with the grand final song “Thank you for the Music” capping a
wonderful 2011 at HSG.
