CARLA DENISE JAVELLANA
Ms. Kyla graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the Ateneo de Manila University entering the university with the intention of pursuing medical school. When that did not pan out, she realized her calling had always been teaching, with one of her earliest and most favorite memories of pretend play being “Teacher Ate Kyla” to her younger cousins.
She is now pursuing her Master of Arts in Education (MA Ed) with concentration in Special Education at the University of the Philippines Diliman campus. She is no stranger to persons with special needs being a sibling of autism.
She loves being around children and draws her energy from them. She worked at the Ateneo Center for Educational Development for two years where she was able to spend a lot of time with the student beneficiaries of the feeding program she was overseeing.
She also served as a part-time preschool teacher at a school in Greenmeadows where she taught children ages 2-5 how to read and write through the Enrichment Program, and also served as a substitute teacher for the infant class. She also volunteers as staff for the Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV) QC Chapter Mini Camps working with children ages 9-14. Headway School for Giftedness is her first exposure to an inclusive approach, and she is thankful to be in an environment where she can apply everything she has learned to good use.
Her motto as a teacher is “changing the world one small person at a time.”
