Fridays out of the Box - Aerobics Day, January 27, 2012

                    Picture

As part of its efforts to nurture the physical fitness of its pupils, HSG staged an Aerobics Day where students, parents and guardians participated in a synchronized dance activity. The students, most of whom are inclined to dancing for fitness, completed a full hour’s worth of routine. The activity ended with students tired, yet fulfilled, from this Fridays-out-of-the-box experience.

A simple day of showcasing Creativity and Talent was the theme for this year’s Giftedness Week Celebration. It was an alternative classroom experience for students who got to choose their desired class for a day! A sign up center had the pupils register for either Physical activity, Music, Arts or Crafts early in the week. They then trooped to assigned classes, who were facilitated by HSG Mentors and Student Teachers.

_For the whole morning, they created an output (Physical Activity – Dance routine, Music – Musical Instrument, Art – Mixed Media Collage, Craft – Paper Puppet and Balloon figure), after which they presented after three hours of production. What resulted was a simple, yet fulfilling activity that had all students engaged in the creative rush!

Mid Year Field Trip, November 21, 2011

It was a great day for a fieldtrip as the weather was very nice and no signs of rain! Yey!

We headed to our first destination which was the Nido Science Discovery Center located in SM Mall of Asia. It was a very educational trip as the kids and adults as well, learned a lot. In the Planetarium, a 3D presentation was shown (which I think was amazing!). We learned about the stars, Planets, Galaxies and far flung constellations. Then we learned everything about our body - the different smells, parts of the body, how does a vomit start and why do we burp. It was funny!

The next one on our list was the Kulturang Pinoy at the CCP Complex. As we were about to enter, we started it off with tribal music and dancing! Students, teachers and even parents were invited to come up front to dance! Woohoo! Everyone enjoyed dancing! A presentation was then prepared by the staff which involved the students and teachers as well

Last but not the least was A Touch of Aura also at the CCP Complex. Here, balance of light, different visions of animals and other trivia about light were discussed and tackled. Then we witnessed shadow plays, a black light dance and a laser party! The Laser party was indeed a crowd favorite as not only the students enjoyed dancing but the teachers as well!

Everyone then boarded the bus to go home. Tired but sleepy, everyone went home with satisfied smiles and happy hearts.

What  a successful HSG Field Trip 2011!

With the theme “The World is Full of Colors”, the HSG community celebrated the United Nations week 2011 with a series of creative activities geared to promote unity and diversity among the people of the world. The result is one fantasy-filled day where Medieval kings and queens, Egyptians and Japanese dolls, Middle Eastern characters, and, of course, cute and cuddly ghosts and monsters, filled the scene!

Buwan ng Wika Supershow, August 31, 2011

                    Picture
The Buwan ng Wika serves as an opportunity for HSG children to showcase their talents through a one-of-a-kind artistic production. In alignment with its 10-year celebration theme Aim High, HSG! the  school community staged “Lipad, Bata, Lipad!” - a visual poetry utilizing colorful array of visual, literary and musical delights. The objective was for each HSG pupil to prepare, together, with the whole class, a production number that entails camaraderie, discipline and costume production.

                    Picture
Depicting different insects, each class crafted a presentation fusing Western contemporary and classical instrumentals with Tagalog poetry. Fantasia inspired tracks were seen in the Preparatory Dragonflies and Grade 1 Butterflies-and -caterpillars. The Nursery and Kinder classes presented a Filipinized version of the Flight of the Bumblebee, complete with elaborate costumes and intricately designed bee wings!

                    Picture
The supershow symbolizes how the insect's maturation can be comparable to a child's growth and development. The metamorphosis is similar to a child's opening of his/her view of the world The representations  by the higher years likewise portrayed issues related to environmental care, the fight against poverty and Rizal's short stories with a meaningful message (such as the story of the gamu-gamo)

This, presented in varied styles utilizing black lights, video backdrops and well-crafted costumes, brought to the HSG audience at the new GT Toyota Auditorium, UP Diliman, a unique Buwan ng Wika like no other.

Furthering Talents: Maximizing your Child's Potential (Symposium)
                    June 23, 2011

                    Picture
A symposium about Maximizing Children’s Potentials was held last June 23, 2011 at the Occupational Safety and Health Center in North Avenue, Quezon City. Entitled “Furthering Talents”, the aim of the symposium was to build on the importance of nurturing potentials in Filipino children and to help them actualize themselves through their gifts and talents.

Dr. Rhoda Myra Garces-Bacsal, lecturer at the National Institute of Education of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, facilitated the symposium.

Participants from different universities, colleges and centers participated and learned more about talent development, and how different strategies can help pupils – whether excelling in the sciences or the arts –work best in their fields of interests.

In the afternoon, a special session for educators was conducted by the same speaker. A seminar-workshop type activity allowed teachers to develop talented development programs in their respective schools/centers.

It was a different kind of class day - HSG's open house had the students singing, moving around, taking photos artistically and eating their own artworks on this day!

For one whole day, participants engaged in various workshops that would maximize their creativity. An edible art workshop was one opportunity to design their own cupcakes, with the help of HSG's Faculty Team! It is a prelude to the exciting things that are about to happen this coming school year...

                    Teachers' Educational / Exposure Trip

HSG's Team of Administrators, Faculty and Staff traveled to the exotic provinces in Ilocos to build awareness on the country's cultural heritage and rare sceneries. They went around both Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte to see painter Juan Luna's home, the tomb of Former President Ferdinand Marcos, from which they learned a lot from about their lives. The teachers also appreciated the old Manila architecture at Vigan. One highlight was an opportunity to see the Kapurpurawan Rock Formations, a rare geological find that is fast gaining popularity.
